1. How did you initially learn about the advertising industry and what attracted you to advertising marketing?

My introduction was Zelma Watkins, my mother. She was convinced of my creativity because of my tendency to remix the lyrics of nursery rhymes as a child. In college, she suggested looking into advertising and I’ve been pursuing that path ever since. I guess Mom is always right. If you ask her, she’ll confirm she is.

2. What role(s) are you targeting within the next 1-3 years?

In the early stages of my career, I tried a few different roles. Currently, I’m enjoying contributing to my team as a creative and I’m looking forward to making the leap from Associate Creative Director to Creative Director in the following years. I hope to continue to work with creatives and clients that aim to learn from and shape culture. And anyone who takes a glance at my LinkedIn page knows that travelling will always be a huge allure.

3. At what point in your career/life did you see things start to come together and "click" for you?

I’ve experienced many moments of clarity. Whenever something begins to click for me I follow it up by diving into the next unknown of my career. It’s my belief that once you think you get “it” you’ll become closed off to new solutions. Since the best ideas live on the other side of comfort, I’m resolved to do the same.

4. What advice would you give your 17-year-old self?

When weary seek your reflection and know this: black skin is bonded to a body strong enough to carry it.
